No, it really doesn't mean there are 'quite a few people'. There is at least one person, his name is Donald Trump. That is the only man they are protecting now. Might have been half a dozen, maybe a dozen. Don't fall for the QAnon attempt to deflect from the one guy found liable for rape.

The question in my mind is always 'is this person likely to kill again'. The worst-case scenario is a 30-something serial killer.
The 'person of interest' looks pretty young, most likely a student. So that makes it unlikely this was a Russian op. He is wearing some pretty distinctive clothing which points to poor OPSEC. The FBI should be able to arrest him within days.

Looking at the Kirk assassination from a security perspective, it appears to be very different to the recent MAGA inspired violence. Unless the shooter was very lucky, they were a very good shot, hitting their target from 200ft.
