There's a conversation to be had re: the intersection of milking for capital (e.g. Persona 5, TLOU) and the love creators develop for their works, but I never see it happening. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places. Gives me a weird feeling, is all. Sequel culture is a little out of control imo

Don’t know who made this but thank you

Baudrillard’s 4 stages of simulacra applied to pumpkin spice Stage one (next to picture of pumpkin): Initially the sign (image or representation) is a reflection of basic reality Stage two (next to picture of pumpkin pie): the sign masks a basic reality. The image becomes a distortion of reality Stage three (next to Starbucks pumpkin spice latte): the sign marks the absence of basic reality. The image calls into question what the reality is and if it even exists Stage four (next to jug of pumpkin spice flavored coffee mate): the sign bears no relation to any reality whatsoever; it is it’s own pure simulacrum

I can't escape the conclusion that we've ceded the entire public discourse about art to outrage merchants and algorithms and this is the result. Massive audiences addicted to passively consuming frictionless media while eagerly waiting to be told which title it's en vogue to hate next.

There's a whoooole conversation to be had about where visual novels fit into this discussion. It's a can of worms that I didn't open in my VN essay, but it asks an interesting question of *at what point* does a thing go from not-game to game, what are those salient characteristics, blah blah blah

Looks like I've been added to another starter pack. Hi, new folks! My name is Rick, and if you're looking for a video game podcast that focuses on critical analysis, please give the show a try! Below is a short thread of three games we've covered that might be good starting points. Thanks, all!
