One of the most interesting things about Jimmy Kimmel, and what I loved most about his conversation with Bill Burr a few months back, was that they’re both middle-aged white comedians who heard how culture has evolved, took notes, grew up, didn’t get defensive, and became *even more* successful.

I am working on a post all about using fandom in activism. The point is that being in fandom isn’t activism but it’s a great tool to build community and share your ideas in a language people already understand and enjoy.
Pragmatically, if you’re interested in revolution or resistance of any sort, you *want* an approachable package of basic revolutionary ideology that people are happy to engage with en masse. You want something that helps people give an easy name to what they’re seeing
The thing everyone can do right now is to find your lane if you don't already have one and work that lane diligently and with commitment.

In retrospect, it's actually kind of stunning how bad Strange New Worlds Season 3 was. It was mostly a mechanized, rote recitation of greatest hits. Terrarium, although an homage itself, was about something until the final minutes made it about Star Trek.

Was talking about this with brand new college students yesterday. It’s not traditional values that allow people to rise, it’s having their basic needs met. (Also Brooks version of traditional values is made up.)
I know people are overwhelmed by too much news from every angle, and maybe people are distracted by the "terrorist" language, or just plain exhausted. But this is the President of the United States saying he is going to go around killing people because he thinks they're criminals. And already did.
The episode suggests that Vulcans are unable to understand nuance or accept differences due to their genetic make up, which is a) not how genetics work and b) not true to TOS or other Trek canon.
