The fact that not a single Jewish org, or progressive org, nor the Democratic Party has even attempted organizing a collective boycott is extremely disappointing.
The fact that not a single Jewish org, or progressive org, nor the Democratic Party has even attempted organizing a collective boycott is extremely disappointing.
Grok hasn't said anything about a ceasefire or free palestine, so they could not care less.
Lots of Jewish orgs have already left X…. www.timesofisrael.com/liveblog_ent...
How about the MAGA republicans? Ohhh wait... they are all white supremacists, facists, Russian loving putin worshipers. Elon fits right in.
And where is the outrage against John Cusack for his bluesky post the other day? He deleted it, but I never saw any apology or explanation
democrats are busy collaborating with jake tapper to take down mamdani
I know it’s a pretty decentralized movement and I def admire a lot about it, but I’m a little surprised this didn’t become a bigger plank of the Tesla protests
The Dems are all still tweeting
Seems like a pretty easy response to all the right win "antisemitism" talk. Just call out Musk and his platform for being Nazi fucks.
Okay but have you considered the even more real threat to the Jewish people (Zohran Mamdani winning the NYC mayoral primary)?
But the clicks!
There are significant chunks of the Democratic party which have mass-quit like that. Really wish it was all of them though. www.sfchronicle.com/politics/art...
I've been maintaining a feed of the Democrats who are now active here bsky.app/profile/davi...
Because they aren’t there? www.axios.com/2025/01/28/j...
there are only some small grassroots activists advocating boycotting X, those big ones just being inactive, they have been super disappointing.
None of this is new, Max. Look what party Elo endorsed in Germany. I don’t know why any liberal or Jew is still on Twitter.
Plenty of businesses still very active in the platform, some even rely on Grok. It’s maddening there is not more action and forcing hands.
Loads of Democratic politicians contributing to Twitter/X daily 🤷🏼♀️ WTF?!
100% bsky.app/profile/darr...
Dem leaders should have been pressured to leave the first time musk did his white replacement thing. They leave and bring all the gov accounts they could, we would not be where we are….
Has Jonathan Greenblatt come up with a good excuse/explanation for Grok's episodes yet?
I was just wondering how he was going to blame this on some random college student who wanted to end a war.
The burden isn't only on progressives. Everybody who claims to be concerned about left antisemitism should be shamed into leaving Xitter.
Tesla Takedowns have been successful, so a mass "X-it" could have legs. One tactic would be to keep doing Tesla Takedowns but add signs encouraging people to make their X-it from the platform.
I understand most people don’t want to leave X because that’s where most other people still are. That just means that it’s a collective action problem; it can be overcome with organizing that brings people together towards non-cooperation. If we can’t even get off X, how can we stop fascism?
I'm not as worried about the world not caring that Grok is spewing BS on Twitter as the silence on the genocide in Gaza, the concentration camp in Florida and SCOTUS openly promoting Fascism. It's starting to feel like acceptance w/ everything that is wrong w/ the world is setting in. 😱🤬😩
They don’t wanna leave because it incorporates more genres and interests. For example, anything sports related on here sucks, art, movie, etc, same. So they cherry pick their politics on this platform, and then they go to that platform for sports, entertainment, and breaking news.
It feels like EVERYONE just gave up after the last election.
You know what, I felt the way about Facebook but I just got sick of Zuckerberg's bull.
Came here to say folks need to do the same with Facebook and Instagram too. Suckerberg isn’t a good guy either!
Yup. I miss my Facebook community. But I told them why I had to go and where to find me. Love Mastodon.
They just find you politically inconvenient. Welcome to the club. I'm sorry man.
Our city cancel here in Halifax voted to move their accounts off x to blue sky www.ctvnews.ca/atlantic/nov...
Council*
Petition for the Canadian federal govt to replace twitter accounts with Bluesky? @rachaelgilmour.bsky.social @deanblundell.bsky.social Anybody know how that works?
Sorry I meant @rachelgilmore.bsky.social
they can but choose not to, Big difference
Ugh... "If we can’t even get off X, how can we stop fascism?" is a great question but also is very horrifying to think about.
Exactly right.
Your last sentence has been rattling around in my head a lot lately
I left X ages ago and found plenty of same people on BlueSky. More people should put some effort into leaving X
I killed my Twitter account the day after the election this past November. Best move I’ve made. Cesspool
You make very good points and its a double edged sword. I don’t want to support them, but there are people around the world that still use it who I wish to remain in contact with; primarily from Japan. On top of that, if I don’t stay active, a bot could hijack my username.
Americans know how to complain but not act. The boycott needed to happen long ago, but big accounts see the tiny like/follower counts here & go back to where they can feel good & popular. They complain about the fascists but go right back to support him w/some lame excuse. 👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼
And WHY are ppl STILL buying teslas?!?! 🤯🤯🤯
its more people with large followers numbers dont want to start over. its pure self interest in imaginary internet points
I still have my account but only go there to make sure nothing weird is happening to it. I had heard if I canceled my account people could start using my username and profile. Not sure if that’s true but I kept mine just in case. I am here now.
My fear and sorrow grow daily
In my opinion, the real problem is that no one has even really tried to organize a boycott of X. Certainly, no organizations, coalitions, or national leaders have attempted to lead a boycott. From where I sit, it feels like a failure of the progressive movement across the board.
Source? And does this data differentiate between human and bot usage?
There might be another light here. There are estimates that 64% of users on X are bots. This would put X at closer to 47 million live users. Bluesky says it’s around 30 mil last I saw. I’m hoping this pushes Germany to ban it totally. I don’t think that has happened yet.
@teslatakedown.com seems like something you guys could switch to
I think the numbers make it look worse than it is, the sheer number of bots covers for the actual users leaving
@karaswisher.bsky.social did her level best to get people off X. She gave up her huge following and moved to Bluesky.
This graph is so surprising to me. I thought everyone except for Musk fanboys had left twitter already; I know I am one of 12 leftists talking to each other on this site or whatever but I don't know anyone who still uses twitter and I only ever hear complaints that it is dominated by incels
I don’t trust that these numbers aren’t manipulated by the platforms and/or dominated by bot accounts. But also, both sites are much more globally popular than Bluesky.
What about all the Advertisers that bailed after Elmo told them to fuck off?
Yeah true but corporations aren't gonna save us from fascists we need orgs and pols to be able to do the bare minimum here.
i assume that profit-seeking corporations have no values other than increasing their share prices
Maybe start by challenging the Trump administration and the DOJ to put their money where their mouth is about antisemitism. After all what has any university community that compares with this trash? At worst, it shines a light on their utter cynicism and hypocrisy, and the pseudo Musk-Trump feud.
It would be great to open up a chat about a Boycott effort.
Love to get your help with the effort at @growthesky.bsky.social
I spent 3 months last winter trying to organize just this with extremely limited success. Folks had lots of "reasons" but the real one is that most people are addicted to their follower count. There are good folks still trying via @twittertakedown.org but it's hard work and people are just dug in
Thanks Evan, yes we are still very much working on this! There is enough energy just in this thread to really help move this campaign forward if we all work together! Would love to get your thoughts on our strategy! @maxberger.bsky.social, @teslatakedown.com, @djrothkopf.bsky.social
I've gotten 2 orgs here in Canada to stop using twitter since February/25. Had also asked 2 others but they didn't respond or stop. I'll be asking them again this week. There's no perfect platform but there's no excuse for using a clearly nazi loving one.
I left the day he took office and never looked back
In case there was any doubt about Elon’s salute…. Just look to Elons Twitter/Ai answers.
A 3rd sector human rights organisation I volunteer with shut down their account ( @reclaimtheagenda.bsky.social ) making a statement as to why. It's that simple.
Hi Max, we'd love your thoughts on our campaign! We've been at this for six months and its slow going but we aren't giving up. Check out our website, twittertakedown.org and our substack. Would love to talk to you more about our strategy and get your feedback!
Max. Agreed. And it will NEVER EVER EVER justify anything, but it's important to see things through the larger perspective. He was BORN to Nazis, just as trump was.
Hi Max, I feel ya. I wish people would do the same in FL, it's just awful to see people doing business as usual in a state that builds concentration camps. There's gotta be some way to organize better.
Pontifex had a big opportunity and blew it.
Sounds like a case for the @teslatakedown.com crowd. Tesla delenda est. X delenda est.
I left last year after the smear campaign against President Biden. So I don't even know who's still there or why.
I’m shocked people use it because it’s unusable. I suppose more to your point, some people probably need a social kick in the pants to delete it, they’ll be mealy mouthed about it till they can’t
I would like for every progressive elected official, organization, and commentator to have to explain why they're still on MechaHitler's website.
I’m running a training for nonprofit orgs and unions to help them migrate and integrate Bluesky into their strategy. So many staff are overwhelmed but it’s something we must take on & it will be beneficial to orgs. bit.ly/blueskytrain
That is great Elana! We'd love to work together! Our focus right now is trying to convince nonprofits and unions to use Bluesky more--for example just to add it to their websites. For example, here's our current action: bsky.app/profile/twit...
The main problem with calling to boycott X is that people have spent almost a decade building their accounts on that platform, which is a means of getting revenue or tied directly into livelihood. Simply walking away from that might be impossible for some for many reasons, Ppl/livelihood/network/etc
The accounts are like a digital home. To simply leave the country and re-establish somewhere else, some can afford it, but some wont have the means. I came from Facebook- While my business isnt linked, I kept the account because the majority of people arent on BSky & I need some way to access them.
If X were simply a store, boycotting would be doable, but it isn't and therein lies the problem. It's like a country where people live/work and have their engagement turned into money for the country. :/ To be clear, I never used X, but I know of the struggle. The other thing... if you leave such
a group without opposition, the platform could become an echo-chamber that emboldens. It gives the illusion that everyone agrees & that they're a majority. That could also be dangerous. I am sorry I don't have any answers for how to fight, but ... maybe some answers on why good ppl haven't left X.
We need a national collective day of deleting Twitter
I thought that was Inauguration Day? I deleted Twitter at 1 pm on Inauguration Day, and I know lots of us did.
I deleted my tweets before Elmo bought it. But lots of others seem to need another chance to leave Twitter.
Has it always talked like such a dick?
Every advertiser on Twitter is, in effect, advertising in a Nazi magazine.
We should stop calling it X or Twitter and literally just call it MechaHitler. People need to feel shame when they use MechaHitler
Hi Max, yes, we are organizing people to leave X and we'd love your thoughts on our campaign! We've been at this for 6 months and its slow going but we aren't giving up. Check out our website, twittertakedown.org and our substack. Would love to talk to you about our strategy and get your feedback!
I would go ahead and lead with the Nazi thing.
Good one! 👏👏👏👏
Same goes for employees working for xAI, and those investing in the AI company.
But I'm sure his America Party will be fine.
If it’s splits maga it will be…
It will only split Dems. MAGAs are much more united, unfortunately.
There are dems that are with *him*?! Don’t think so..
I'm sensing shenanigans. How the heck did it tokenize "MechaHitler?"
