We don’t talk enough about how ironic it is that a party that calls itself “Republicans” which was founded to emancipate enslaved African people ended the Republic after a Black man served as president.

It's hard to say that whole sentence without sobbing, though. Don't you think?
The GOP are not the Republicans that Lincoln and Abolitionists were. They are the Southern Democrat slave owning Confederates who were let back into the government when Johnson pardoned all the Confederates. The schism that caused the name change was around FDR’s New Deal. Republicans=Confederates.
That was the point of the post, yes?
Been saying this for years now
Yes, so true BUT the republic is not over yet AND we got some other pressing issues right now, including illegal military occupation of cities & states w/out cause; illegal incarceration of citizens of color & immigrants violating due process & more. Analysis of demise needs to wait while we fight
unless you believe that flailing around blindly and rudderless is the best way to fight, then analysis is an integral part of fighting
Thanks
Very good point.
Black republicans have said nothing about Trump removing the history of slavery from the Smithsonian and this.
And they still think they're the party of Lincoln just because they bear the same name lol. When instead they are the George Wallace Dixiecrats
My English teacher is furious that I can’t identify the type of irony right now. I’ll go… historical?
💯💯
"Emancipation!!!" ... ... "No, not like that!"
Greed and lust have no masters.
Led by a president whose most famous speeches spoke about "government of the people, by the people, for the people" and "malice towards none, charity to all". Perhaps this explains why Trump, Vance, Miller, Hegseth identify so strongly with the Confederates, not Lincoln.
