Just because you don't know about stuff doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Obvious example, here's coronation chicken from 1953 (the clue is in the name). I guess it's what an American might call a 'fusion dish'. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coronat...

If only the later inventors of stuff had gone for names like Jubilee Chicken or Lamb Brum we wouldn't see these silly takes. (For example in Japan a classic comfort food is Kare Raisu. It's a completely Japanacised version of 'curry & rice' and no-one eating it in the West thinks 'cultural theft!'

What's funny about that one is our many have its origins in British curry that was served on Royal Navy ships. The Japanese navy at the time modelled itself on the RN and copied the food.

That would definitely explain the English name. I love how food travels around the world! (Remember first running into Kare Raisu in Japan about 20 years ago, and being very puzzled by it. Love it now, sometimes make it at home)

I found out that the bullion blocks are very similar composition wise to generic British curry powder, so I'm tempted to give it a go myself from scratch. :D

They're pretty easy to get hold of. I haven't lived in the UK for a while but they're even available here in utterly spicephobic _Austria_ for heavens' sake. Amazon have them. On the other hand Amazon also deliver 500 gram tubs of Marmite to Austria so I'm not sure curry bouillon is that notable :)

There’s a whole range of Japanese food that came from outside Japan, including Katsu curry: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Y%C5%8D...

Okay I'ma have to leave this thread, because rather than fretting about cultural whatevers, I'm just hungry, and now I want Japanese curry in a taco.
