The number of people who think this means just undocumented people who violently broke the law is likely staggeringly high. They aren’t hearing or believing it’s the farm workers, restaurant and hospitality workers, or regular folks.

That's just how it works. It's the same reason nobody cares bout prisoner's rights and California votes for slavery. To them, a prisoner is just a violet crazed rapist or something they can dehumanize.
