Eisenhower was actually in a pretty unique position to be able to stop the Red Scare, his anti-communist views were pretty well known, if he had stepped forwards and said something, said that was all bullshit, people would have listened. He did not, he can go to hell.

And of course, he's ultimately, the person who signed the executive orders who caused the Lavender Scare purges, purposely adding 'sexual degenerates' to the list of security risks. We could blame that on that fucker Hoey's lying report, but ultimately, the buck stops with the president.

No, I understand, reading that, it does sound like I was trying to defend him. I really was just trying to make a point about the origin of those, where opportunists in Congress blew up literally nothing into a huge political issue that everyone had to deal with. Because, you know... *gestures*
