One problem with the Alien universe (that this week’s Alien:Earth at least nods at) is they never really explain why on earth so many people would be willing to spend half a century in cryosleep and wake up in a completely different reality if they wake up at all.

Counterpoint: you can do that OR try and find a job in the games industry as a junior....cryosleep not sounding so bad!

Haven't seen AE, but according to other Alien sources, their FTL tech makes years pass inside the ship, but only days/weeks outside. That's why in Aliens, they went into cryo to go to the colony, a trip which apparently only took like a week - otherwise they would have all aged several years.

I thought it was only half a century between Alien and Aliens because Ripley was adrift after Alien and Weyland-Yutani couldn't be fucked to pick her up in a timely manner. I figured that for normal spaceflight you were only under for weeks/months.

I mean…you have two boys too. I could use the sleep. But seriously the expanded universe is basically a small number of super wealthy and everyone else is indentured servants at best.

I think Morrow, at least, demonstrates a reason.
