Did I say that? I was making the point that DNA marker matches did not use computer tech in the early mid 1980’s as far as analyis. Been working with computers and databases since the late 70’s and also have advanced degree in biology so please no mansplaining.
So we are agreed. Human beings find solutions to problems. In doing so, they use technology. AI is another tool which uses the power of databased computers to provide the support needed by people. QED.
In the 1950’s the US thought they could use atomic explosions to dig canals. They also tried to develop an atomic mortar. Both seem laughable now, but these ideas were tested at the Nevada Test Site. The history of technology includes failures, missteps in addn to progress.
Artificial Intelligence is a broad term and it’s been around for some time. Generative AI is still in its infancy and a number of flaws - from factual errors to copyright and massive electricity needs. Add in humans relying on a flawed system = chaos. AI used in pattern detection is ok.
Can also be used to retrieve data scattered all over the net which if you’ve got the time and patience can get yourself using Google. Example ; help in setting up your router. Help in identifying, and dating a painting. But beware it’s still in its infancy and makes mistakes.
Always note the site(s) that Google AI uses to compose its response. Some answers are flat out wrong. Try finding Day of the Dove episode from Star Trek by describing it as the one where Kirk Spock and crew laugh to fight the evil. Google AI said laughter is found in Trouble with Tribbles. /1
I’ve been using and teaching search engines & browser options since the days of Lycos and Mosaic. Choose your keywords well, revise as needed, and look carefully thru the pages of results as some are good, while others are suspect. /fin
