It needs CDC approval, which may or may not happen under RFK's anti vax destruction.
This is happening in NC as well but not because CO and NC are terrible. The existing laws served to ensure that available vaccines were cleared by the vaccine advisory board. That worked until RFKJr corrupted the board, so now those laws hamstring what would otherwise be advised vaccines.
For example, I can get a shot in SC because SC has historically been so contrarian that they had no such law. SC also allows unpasteurized milk for sale. So states w/ laws to protect public health are ironically affected because the pub. health infrastructure has been corrupted by MAHA sociopaths.
I should add that this is not a comment on Polis but rather an explanation of existing state law that complicates distributing vaccines not approved by the vaccine advisory board.
Yes, I understand the law and why it exists, and that this is all RFK Jr's fault. But Polis thinks RFK Jr is doing a great job and I was also very unhappy with his policies during the initial COVID outbreak in 2020.
For instance, instead of statewide restrictions, Polis set up tracking of COVID rates by county, and counties were supposed to manage things themselves subject to stricter quarantines/shutdowns if their rates got too high. Rates got too high and Polis did NOTHING but set the scale higher!

Note that the FDA doesn't regulate pharmacists. The only thing that stops Illinois pharmacists from providing Covid vaccines is Illinois state law, which mandates CDC compliance *only for Covid*. By repealing (10) and (11), Illinois could make its pharmacists fully independent of RFK.
(I suspect those restrictions were written into law back when Covid vaccines were scarce, so that pharmacists would triage their supplies per CDC guidance).

This is true but physicians may have to take on liability which could result in many choosing not to prescribe off-label. Particularly in these deeply partisan, litigious times. But states should be exploring all options open to them.

Heck, here in Oregon we residents can't even get an appointment to see a doctor. Not enough doctors or nurses & they are overworked & underpaid so they are leaving the profession. It took me 6 months to see my GP, 18 mos. to get to an orthopedist. But we are going to take out of state patients too?

I fully support people in Blue states having these protections. And what about solutions for those of us in Red states? Surely, one cannot stop at "too bad for you" because we were outvoted and so we must be at greater risk of harm and death?

Pritzker showed good leadership when it came to finding PPE in 2020. I'm hoping he's built on that administrative apparatus; we may need it. And we may need an Illinois OSHA.

Unfortunately, that’s not really how infectious diseases work. We all rise or fall together. Also, these vaccines aren’t effective enough to actually get us to herd immunity, even if enough people got them, hence why we have to keep getting new boosters, but that’s a whole other can of worms.
Ironic when that was mandatory under George Washington.

But where do the funds for this and all the other things states will have to do, if the feds destroy all support? Even if we stop sending the feds tax money, then SS and Medicare/Medicaid collapse, and there is no way the states can make that up. And only some states would even try.
This is a brilliant idea! Take it one step further and have blue states ban together- kinda like a domestic NATO- and work together on vaccines/healthcare, human rights and fighting Trump and ICE.

Red states: Poor general health care. Poor reproductive health care. Poor schools. Poor climate policy. Unsavory political leadership. At some point, demographics will reflect all this.
None of those in leadership view maga as anything but a tool. The only thing they'll get is some scraps here and there. For the most part they are the laziest, fattest, least healthy segment of the population - not RFK's vision.
When are Blue State governors going to direct their Treasurers or Controllers to halt the transfer of federal tax $ to the fed and instead use that money in state to replace the programs, vaccines and other things Trump & co are killing?
When they say "Blue States contribute more to the federal treasury than they receive" it's the tax payments of individuals in Blue states they're talking about. So the state govts. don't have control over this money. We'd have to all just not pay federal taxes as individuals.
State government has control of all the taxes that go to Feds from their state workers. It’s a start! Also companies in those states could also participate.

It is almost certainly the case that the excess death rate of Republicans over Democrats cost the GOP this important office. #AZGov Katie Hobbs should absolutely join other Dem governors in distributing COVID vaccines widely.
