There’s this really good video by the music journalist Polyphonic about The Doors’ song “The End”. youtu.be/gJLeek0Bjc4?... There’s quite a few songs on “With the Lights Out” that stand out with their more avant-garde and abstract vocals in the same way as The End.
I need to look into The Doors and Morrison a little more, but there’s a similarity between these versions of Kurt and Morrison’s affect that I really like. The tone of these songs is so much more ethereal and detached. Almost psychedelic. “If You Must” and “Gallons of Rubbing Alcohol” are similar.
A shoutout to “Mrs. Butterworth” as well. Feels less serious and more like a shitpost but in a slightly less crude way. Ok I’m done I can’t spend all evening fangirling omg.
