Politicians would be a lot less empowered to lie and cheat in every interview if the interviewers actually pushed back on their false claims. Would also help if they had to face citizens every single day

But that means the interviewer had done some work , and knew what they were doing instead of just reading out prepared questions written by someone else

Did you catch Krystal Ball's interview of Elise Stefanik? It was gratifying, and demonstrated exactly why most politicians won't go to journalists with information and a spine.
