Preproduction experiments would be part of the pre-visualize / casting process. I think experience is very important to carry a big budget CGI production on an actors shoulders

Age is a factor. Technology, makeup lighting & in camera effects can turn back time. Using production techniques some of the actors mentioned could play a 10 year old.
