I'm sure the humiliation related much more to his abject failure to operate his own stagecraft than to 15yr old you's enthusiastic joy at getting that balloon. If no-one had got a single balloon it would've been worse.

I can understand that wish from a revenge for personal experience of his anecdote pov, but with the greater humiliation of zero balloons, Jarvis Cocker might've given up performing entirely, and the world would be worse for everyone #MonkeysPaw
