One reason why authoritarian regimes govern poorly is that they devalue rationality: they deny the existence of reality, and sooner or later, reality will catch up

Only if the majority of the population has the ability to think rationally. But, that is obviously not the case in the US. 75M Vote GOP, 125M are #TooLazyToVote, 20M #UnableToVote will do NOTHING to influence Non-Voters or CON-VOTERS. 220M are the majority, who guaranteed authoritarian leadership.

Yes and no. Most “authoritarian “ regimes as anglo west would call it in nonwest are governed much better than if they adopted western style democracy. See china. Russia. Or just ask real chinese or Russians www.worldbank.org/en/news/pres...

Reality will certainly catch up - but only after mowing down ranks and ranks of innocents, and rolling over the bones of innumerable shot messengers on its way to the throne room.

Fascist violence often comes from the need to intimidate people into acquiescing to the ruling fantasy of a bunch of incompetents.

Those who cling to the myth of white supremacy have always had to go to EXTREME measures to deny what they feel in their guts. It torments them as nightmares each and every night. They act out their fears, posing as powerful, to try to forget what they know: white supremacy is just a weak illusion.

Absolute truth. The most defining feature of every conservative I have ever known is their self image cannot stand even the barest touch with a reality of their shitty fucking values turned into policy.

It was removed because it is simply not true… The Democrat organization KKK was wiped out long ago. It has morphed into other Democrat hate groups now.

The plan may be to eliminate rightwing violence by embracing it within the state's monopoly on violence. Then there will be no more rightwing violence.

Which was the whole point of Legasov's monologue in the trial scene in the last episode of Chernobyl. "Every lie we tell incurs a debt to the truth. Sooner or later, that debt is paid." youtu.be/5aNxqbZDNBM

As long as they control the media and turn people apathetic to news, it will not matter whether it catches up or not

A quick online "Duck" search tells me yes, this is the one. Thank you Internet Archive/Wayback Machine.

The study, published in 2024 and conducted by the National Institute of Justice, is titled “What NIJ Research Tells Us About Domestic Terrorism.” The first words are: “Militant, nationalistic, violent extremism has increased in the United States. In fact, the number of far-right attacks continues to outpace all other types of terrorism and domestic violent extremism.” Source: https://newrepublic.com/post/200537/justice-department-deletes-study-politics-domestic-terrorists-right-wing
