black swallowtail, i think. tiger swallowtails have large eye spots and are a solid green.

Hard to say really. These guys were solid black when they hatched! Black ST’s are common here, but so are Canadian, Tiger, Eastern and Anise ST’s. Doesn’t help that most of their caterpillars are identical! XD

that's true, caterpillar ident is tricky. i was just looking at a utah list and apparently we get a variety of Western Swallowtail with an extra pair of wing extensions! i'll have to keep my eye out for those!

We have western too! Never seen one in my yard though. The only ones I ever see are Canadian, Tiger and Anise. An Anise Swallowtail is the only one I’ve ever successfully raised.
