Doesn’t excuse “clearing” homeless encampments in a way that’s inhumane and robs people of dignity.

What's the alternative? Leaving them there? That's what DC's approach has been. That's part of the pretext for DC being under federal occupation now.

You can provide housing without bulldozing and destroying people’s prized possessions - family photos, birth certificates, etc. That’s an absolutely despicable thing to do. And the “clearing” takes place across the country; an Atlanta man was killed by a bulldozer during one such action.

They should be given proper notice and an opportunity to get things in order before that happens. Was that not being done? Were they randomly showing up and clearing things out? Doubt it. There also are some who will refuse to get help, get housed. Leave them in front of the local Target huh?
