🚨Federal judge orders DHS to limit “roving patrols” in Los Angeles. The judge finds that the evidence shows that DHS officers are racially profiling people to demand their papers, which all sides agree is illegal, and orders DHS to stop those unlawful practices.
I'm glad for this ruling, but the truth is they're not gonna follow it. At least a fourth of the people living in California are of Mexican descent because it used to be MEXICO! ICE won't even be fazed by this.

My theory is that this is the main reason for the militarization and masking of ICE. A reasonable person on the street would run immediately at the sight of someone with an assault rifle or take a swing at someone in a mask, and ICE could claim “probable cause” to detain for those reasons alone

Enforcement of the decision as to DHS roving patrol arrests is going to be tricky. Again, the government’s position is that they are NOT doing what they have just been ordered not to do. That means we’re looking at a contentious process, where DHS is likely to push boundaries hard on compliance.

One of the plaintiffs is a U.S. citizen working at a car wash that has been raided by Border Patrol multiple times. He gave them his ID but they demanded a passport. Because he didn’t have one, they detained him and drove him to a different location to check his status.

I was born at the only hospital in Los Alamos, New Mexico & have no idea what it was called. Does that make me an illegal migrant? My ancestors came here in the 1600's & fought in the Revolutionary War. Arresting someone because they don't know the name of the hospital they were born in is insane.

Well, Congress has always been stupid and gave them jurisdiction over "a reasonable distance" from the borders and then the government just decided that 100 miles from any coastline is "reasonable". 2/3 of the US population is subject to CBP "looking for undocumented people"

As the judge explained, DHS failed to submit ANY non-profiling reasons for why the plaintiffs were arrested. They even confirmed the U.S. citizen at the car wash was questioned and detained just because other people had previously been arrested there — nothing specific to him.

Well that sounds like a legitimate reason to arrest someone. They are working at the same place as people who were arrested there before. That sounds logical to who? Are you going to arrest someone for shoplifting because someone was arrested at that store for shoplifting before.
