A VPN is only required once a month on BBC Sounds. Gav from Dublin (who could have tuned in if it was ACTUAL radio radio)
oh there was something @marcrileydj.bsky.social said or quoted on air last week, that I feel the need to add to: for UK residents travelling outside the country, the BBC Sounds app should keep working for a month or so. i'll put this to the test soon enough!
I’m outside the UK and I can’t use the Sounds app, even with a VPN. However, I can access the Sounds website on a browser and stream past shows that way. Which is a huge relief!
They've killed it here in Spain and it doesn't even work with a VPN (well, not with my company at least)
Just adding to this, TuneIn and Apple Music have reliable live streams as well in the USA. You can subscribe to Tune In and they present the full BBC station lineup as a package, live listening only.
But no "listen again" option possible?
Correct, that has been taken away. However the new player controls let you rewind and fast forward through the shows if they are still on live.
Thanks, even if it's not the answer I was hoping for. I'm still OK for the moment as I can still listen again via Sonos, but I'm sure that loophole will be closed soon 🙁
Good luck and let me know if you find other listen again options! Hopefully someone will begin archiving music shows.
I should clarify the new BBC app player has this rewind/fast forward functionality. The 3rd party apps are live only without these controls.
