The problem’s worsened by a popular press chasing the same engagement metrics, amplifying outrage to fit platform incentives. This creates a feedback loop where distorted public opinion drives headlines, and headlines drive distorted politics.

When politics don’t go ahead and lead, but trail public opinion‘s trail
The same phenomenon is having a disastrous effect on BBC News coverage
this loop seems to be everywhere.
and those two feed back upon each other in some cases – online safety is implementedly widely to cause the consequences wanted by those making the decisions. X tweets BBC news links as instinguisable from links to only fans – which clealy has consequences
Isn't it the other way round, with the Labour government chasing the popular press in their desperation for sales/clicks/popularity?
Focus group led managerialism.
In particular though, it’s important to remember that most of the right wing press have and will always push as much to the right as they can: on any issue. Tories in the past have mostly been more cautious Jenrick, Farage etc will ride the racist far right train as far as it will take them
The left have failed to enunciate a progressive vision for the last fifty years at a minimum. It is how the right succeeding in pushing the centre ever rightward, privatising government power, and making the 'left' into red-tie wearing Tories. Everything you are describing is downstream from this.

If only he would use his vast majority to rid us of the non dom billionaire owners. Levenson 2 should be implemented but for some reason Labour doesn’t see it as a problem.
And they should purge the BBC of its right wing Tory overlords too
He's not terrified of them. It's a symbiotic relationship. He's just hired the former editor of The Sun
& he appears to have no actual beliefs or principles that are important enough to him to ever say "XYZ is more important than me being PM." He's always cap in hand begging to be liked, never actually standing his ground on something he believes to be right, because there is _nothing_ there.
