The problem with figures like RFK Jr. isn’t just that they spread bad information. It’s that they sustain disordered counterpublics, spaces where falsehoods are reinforced through imitation of legitimate democratic processes.

Jr. is a total loser. Time's drawing near to link autistic causation as he promised and he'll have nothing except medieval studies by quacks. They'll be quickly dismissed and hopefully this pox on humanity is out the door.

"reinforced through imitation of legitimate democratic processes." I say reinforced through intimidation of legitimate democratic processes. There's way too much intimidation going on

The only thing that can be done is vote out the GOP, vote out every Republican that runs for every office. Then there might be the possibility of impeaching of the entire kakistocracy.

Trump’s power lust and astonishing ignorance combine to a lend a theater-of-the-absurdness to everything coming out of Washington theses days. Good lord, are we in trouble.

First, never listen to that good friend guy of yours, he’ll lead you astray… and don’t let him kiss you… or lend him money. Second, he’s right though.

If only their ignorance could contain itself to solely harm this entire regime, I could live with that. Unfortunately, it’s contagious.

First recognise it is not based on ignorance, but a very dangerous ideology, which justifies to himself anything that he does, He is not there for anybody’s benefit but his own, and will crush any person or institution that opposes his views, he will burn everything down, to get his own way.

In healthy democracies, discourse is shaped by Verification, Deliberation, and Accountability (VDA). These guardrails help societies sort truth from falsehood and keep power in check.

But in disordered counterpublics, those same functions are simulated. Members “fact-check,” “debate,” and “hold institutions accountable”, but only within a closed circuit of inverted trust.

Verification: “Research” becomes endless collection of blogs, studies, and YouTube clips, not to test claims, but to prove what’s already believed. Contradictions are dismissed as fake or corrupt. It feels like rigour, but functions as a ritual of loyalty.

Deliberation: Debate looks lively, but it’s performative. Talking points are exchanged to reinforce belonging, not to test ideas. Dissent is punished. What matters is signalling loyalty, not discovering truth.

This is interesting because it's a Cummings point levelled at 'the establishment' too. Not sure what to take away from this, but an interesting parallel.

Accountability: Outsiders, “Big Pharma,” government, shadowy elites, are blamed for everything. Inside the group, mistakes and lies are ignored as long as members stay loyal. Loyalty replaces truth.

Together, these simulations give members the feeling of democratic participation, while in reality deepening group loyalty and hostility to outsiders. Counterpublics turn inward, creating closed worlds increasingly detached from truth.

David [2016 Election Russian Operative for Trump] @plaindavid.bsky.social

To understand this process as simulation is to recognize that to publicly label the thesis as "factually inaccurate", "falsehood", or "lie" (or even to provide facts and reason in response) may amount to involuntary participation.

RFK Jr. doesn’t just benefit from this, he legitimises it. His name and political platform strengthen the illusion that these counterpublics are engaging in real democratic discourse.

Eliot Higgins @eliothiggins.bsky.social

The danger isn’t only the spread of false claims, but the corrosion of democratic reasoning itself. When simulated VDA replaces real VDA, counterpublics harden into closed worlds where no correction is possible.

aug 28, 2025, 9:27 pm • 72 13 • view

Eliot Higgins @eliothiggins.bsky.social

And when disordered counterpublics capture institutional power, as they did under Trump, those same simulated VDA functions enter governance. Verification means loyalty-based “fact-finding.” Deliberation means performative echo chambers. Accountability means purges.

You can see exactly the same behaviour with Tulsi Gabbard's attempt to distract the public from the Epstein story with her attempts to prove Obama interfered with the 2016 election. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...
