I have dry skin, dry eyes, dry mouth, dry mucus membranes. I have wacky high cholesterol because estrogen also is a part of that system. I take calcium, weight lift, and have yearly bone scans because estrogen helps bones. And I have heart testing because yep, estrogen is there too.

Does subdermal fat have any effect on your estrogen, to your knowledge? I've always thought it did, and your post reminded me so I googled it and got nothing

Yes, that is why I am medicated so the estrogen made by organs and body fat is "gobbled up" to insure my body can't use it to make cancer.

And yes, they want me to lose weight so there is less fat to make estrogen in the first place.

So I am in side effect hell because it is better than more cancer. And the number of women I talk to that don't know what all estrogen does is astonishing to me. Because they are all, "What? Why are you spite vegan? Estrogen helps cholesterol!?!"

I was just talking to a friend of mine today about how little most people who are going or will go through menopause know about hormones and what they do. I count myself among them! It’s deeply disturbing, though.

It totally is. It just shows how little research and education is done.

Or all "My friend/family member had breast cancer and got a hysterectomy but kept their ovaries, that's just silly." And then I get to explain why keeping ovaries is a good idea for many people who have/had breast cancer.

I know, I shouldn't care as much as I do. But I guess I do this because I'm jealous of those that get to keep their hormones. I hate having to have multiple prescriptions to deal with side effects of no estrogen. It isn't fair. But life isn't fair. Cancer isn't fair.

This is just the fucking annoying hand I have been dealt. These are the lemons life has given me, and I am throwing them as hard as I can back. Because this shit sucks.

I am cis. Always have been, probably always will be. But other people have questioned my gender since I was 4 because I don't perform girl/woman traditionally. And now I'm in a weird in-between land of nonbinary but not chosen by me? Physical bodies are stupid.
