finding out parents are way more likely now than ever before to assume their kids will be kidnapped if let out on their own was so dizzying. a whole culture with brains completely cooked by 24 hour cable news.

it's also a particular affliction of the suburb-brained because I don't think anyone in a city would really bat an eye if they saw teens out after 8 pm
