Am I misunderstanding? It sounds like they're saying no one can get the new covid vaccines unless they have these certain serious conditions. It's like they don't know there were 1,226,351 confirmed deaths from covid & many others who are sick with long covid). Most did not have these conditions.

I think they’re just making it harder & much more expensive to get a shot if you’re not ID’d high risk. You’ll have to ask your personal doctor for the vaccine and since it’s not recommended by HHS, your insurance may not cover the cost.

You are not misunderstanding. In Arizona, I need a prescription to get the vaccine, which means an appointment with my PCP first. Copay, plus the cost of the vaccine, and however much time it will take to get the appointment. And I'm over 70 and diabetic.
Kinda... I was able to schedule mine for this Friday with a CVS here in Illinois. But on the web form they asked several questions. It was not a set of brutal questions but invasive nonetheless.

Yes, it is. I signed up for the new (2025/2026) Pfizer-BioNTech (COMIRNATY® LP.8.1; COVID-19 Vaccine, mRNA) according to the CVS site.
In PA, we need to meet conditions AND have a prescription for the shot. Even if you meet conditions, you have to jump thru more hoops if, like us, you’re between GPs or don’t have one. Regardless…before we could walk into CVS and get one and it was all free. Now, two co-pays AFTER finding a doc.
It was demonstrated in morgues and cemeteries that you don't have to have a special pre-existing risk condition to die of covid.
