The Post is again doing the Trump administration’s PR for it. There is a lot of talk here from DOT and Duffy, but the specifics are unclear and still being negotiated. www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/202...

The overt Republican propaganda America’s mainstream media are now pushing may actually be eroding Republicans electability. Trump says stupid things and the media seems to publish it as fact. No one believed Stalin either. @oliverdarcy.bsky.social @chrislhayes.bsky.social
We're already reaching the "at least the trains run on time" point of our fascist takeover.
I wonder if they'll make the trains run on time?

Release the Epstein files?
Most of us unsubbed already.
I had the same reaction. It was just…a sentence that said DOT is doing it. No when or how. You can make all the pronouncements you want, that doesn’t mean it’s actually happening. Half the stuff Trump announces never happens or only in a half-assed performative way.
Looks like they’ll take credit for things already in process
Another nail in the coffin.
This is something to watch and even be concerned about, absolutely, but it needs an actual, good, skeptical report, not jumping on a news release. For that matter, even the news release makes clear how the Post headline is running the admin’s conclusory PR. www.transportation.gov/briefing-roo...
Was there a Congressional appropriation?
Er... I think the release is actually terrifying. I don't want this administration having any part of any trains or train stations, TYVM. 😬
Amtrak exists and will continue to exist and the career people there and at the Federal Railroad Administration are great professionals. Trump didn't start this process or pull off some plot. This started under Biden, and Union Station isn't going to suddenly collapse now.
It is, but I think in the present context lots of people will read it thinking it involves the National Guard or ICE, not the outcome of a years-long legal process that the Trump administration will be able to take advantage of in nebulous ways.
Yes, that is my point. And that is obviously what the Trump admin and Post wanted.
I'm sorry, I think I'm seeing A/B testing with versions of the headline. Some places I'm seeing "Trump Administration" and others "U.S. Department of Transportation." I used to work at DOT as a contractor and knew folks working this at Biden's FRA, so I'm somewhat inured to seeing "US DOT"
"security" + "private investment" = #copaganda to manufacture consent for yet another avenue of resources to extract/grift. #defundwapo
Somehow, Mediaite got it even worse? This is not even journalism.
I still am amazed at the utter failure by much of the press to meet this moment. The very First Amendment to the Constitution was precisely to protect the press against an authoritarian government and a lot of the time they just transcribe what the White House tells them
The worst part of the article is that it doesn’t even mention that the Union Station Redevelopment Corporation board is basically controlled by the Department of Transportation. It’s just a shell game.
