I've tried three times to start the Expanse and I always get bored and forget to keep watching after a couple or three episodes. It seems like something I should like, but I just don't. I didn't like or connect with any character. Loved BSG, watched it thrice.

I am enjoying the expanse (late to the party) but S4 is not doing it for me. It feels smaller-scale and kind of rote so far. Should I power through?

Yes. S4 is the worst of the six, adapting what is already the weakest book among the first six, and the Bobbie Draper plot they added in is not good. In contrast S5 is either the best or the second best after S1, adapting what is either the best or second best book.

Book 5 is absolutely my favorite.

I watched four seasons of it; I'm not pretending it doesn't exist, I'm acknowledging it's highly flawed in a fascinating way, on the way from planet-of-the-week Trek to something better.
