Maybe a dumb question or too soon to ask, but is there anything we can do on our own end to protect ourselves? Are those anti-identity theft subscriptions a thing anymore?

Those are pretty useless. I had Lifelock for a bit, and never got an alert, even after I got a license replaced at the DMV.
