We just went through an election where the Democratic party gleefully ignored the Genocide in Palestine because that wasn't convenient for the narrative. Newsome is like many liberals, willing to say "Fuck you, got mine." to the trans-community because that issue is inconvenient to him.
As ugly as these statements may seem, they are factually true: The Hamas war on Israel being fought in Gaza wasn’t at genocide levels last autumn. The trans community doesn’t win or lose elections. They are fellow human beings worthy of respect AND there aren’t that many out there.

This is actually an excellent example. Pro Palestinian people didn't think Biden was doing enough with Israel and Gaza. They endorsed and voted for MAGA.
How is Gaza doing these days? Did they understand that choice would have starvation and children dying in mass? That Trump would encourage genocide? Is Gaza in a better or worse position currently?
My argument isn't that Harris wouldn't have been different on Gaza. Based on the reporting we got recently about the Biden admin lying about cease fire attempts I don't know that it would have been any better. The people who sat out 2024 for ethical reasons didn't lose Harris the election.

Harris never advocated for genocide of Palestinians or to make Gaza a Riviera. And Netanyahu wouldn't have had support to kill as many. There was room for a 2 state compromise. That's gone now.
30% of Americans didn't vote. Do you think that didn't matter? Then there's the % that voted for tRump based on endorsements, especially in Dearborn, MI, from Pro Palestine voters. Per the polls it made a huge difference.
If it was a nailbiter I can understand getting mad at those people. But shouting them down accomplished nothing except making more people jaded about the DNC. If it's Trump V. Newsome then by all means go Newsome. I just think we can do better between now and Election Day.

there are maybe a half dozen dem politicians in the whole country who would actually pass a purity test (aoc, bernie, warren, pritzker, waltz). we need to accept the messy reality of politics and vote blue even if our candidate isnt perfect or will keep getting our ass kicked.

Harris lost by far more than the people who sat out. I voted for her. But watching people throw people under the bus for their ethical beliefs only for her to get decimated really highlighted how unnecessary it was for people to talk down to a minority group.
It would not surprise me if Newsome is our next President. But I just think we can get to that point if it is inevitable without telling trans people they don't matter. If Newsome gets the nom, Pritzker will endorse him without talking down to the trans community.
