Short grain is my go-to, but I welcome all rice into my heart and/or face
“default”
major fan of jasmine rice, i feel like it's just the right length of long grain for me.
Texmati
I tend to default to basmati unless I'm doing something specific like paella
Sushi rice for most dishes, but done properly in a rice cooker
Calrose is my usual go-to
Short grain but that's likely a regional/cultural thing long grain is generally not favoured here
Will I be drawn and quartered if I say Arborio?
not at all
definitely long
Depends on the cusine
Obviously I like the appropriate rice for the appropriate dish, but I think that if I really close my eyes and think of a truly divine rice-eating experience, I think of basmati, with those long and very distinct grains.
I just ate lunch (pad kra pao) with some jasmine rice, and that's up there, too. So I might lean toward longer rice. It's what I grew up eating. Also want to throw in a word about brown long-grain rice, which I think is delicious on its own merits regardless of any possible health benefits.
I to be clear like both short+long grain depending on what I'm eating (also brown rice of course is also good depending on it), but one of those genuine things I get curious about for what people prefer.
