This is such a Feel-Good clip! Thank you 💐
This is such a Feel-Good clip! Thank you 💐
I remember June of 73(?) when school was just getting out, being elated and listening to Hot Fun in the Summertime!
That was great, and thank you.
Hope you got to see the recount documentary - I found it on Hulu
Fabulous😀
He brought the house down with that performance.
I'm too young to have seen this band perform when they were at their finest. How I wish I could have seen them!
Really a piece of history there
RIP to a good old funky good one.
I am doing a protest play list. We Are Family is a must.
HE MADE ME GET UP AND DANCE THEN WHEN I WAS YOUNGER AND DID IT AGAIN JUST NOW AT 71
He was a little bit before my time even though I was aware of him as a kid. Then I watched Summer of Soul which is awesome if people have not seen it. I was blown away. The guy really was a genius
Fantastic. youtu.be/slFiJpAxZyQ
Thanks! That movie is fantastic, I watched it a year or so ago and now I’m going to watch it again
Good idea. To watch again. Be inspired.
I think I may watch it again also. Really opened my eyes. I also was saddened that that entire concert series never received the media attention it deserved. I'm glad it's getting it's due now
Its due. Voice to text. I need an edit button ! #grammarnerd
RIP Sly. May your spirit soar. Your family Stone will sing through eternity.
Right On! ✊🏼
The early years b4 the rabid drug use. Yeah he was good. But then he turned into the devil.
It was fascinating how a man who looked like the MOST uptight conservative old fogey you could possibly imagine brought so many great musicians onto his show. He introduced nearly ALL the greats to America. I really need to read a book about Sullivan. Such an important figure in my youth
💔
RIP, Sly
Miss him, miss this.
R I P Sly "Thank you for letting me myself...!"🎼🎼🎼💖💖💖🙏🙏🙏✨✨✨
I am so grateful he was everywhere on radio and TV during my adolescence. The music and the spirit were irresistible.
One of my favorites
thx danny for posting!
🩷✌️
That got me dancing! Thank you for sharing that. What a great! Just what a great.
I always think of the week he cohosted the Mike Douglas Show! Sly was a HUGE star.
Here's the whole beautiful thang.... youtu.be/WG_xmmllfFw?...
G.O.A.T. Maestro of Funk. No Prince without SLY. Those poor white dudes in the audience didn't know how to deal.. 🤪 RIP - Your music will NEVER die m
Audience sucked. No participation at all. The wrong crowd for that performance.
Wow.
He was amazing One of a kind @q4nwspunk.bsky.social Sly died yesterday 😔
Good times indeed…. 😍😉
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
📌
I loved how he routinely started his concerts...drummer alone, then another walked on, then another, etc., then Sly. It was a building of sound. Amazing! Loved the trumpet rhythm.
Sly was “Formidable”
Ed Sullivan, your basic middle-aged awkward white guy, invited the Beatles, Sly & the Family Stone, Buddy Holly, Jackie Robinson, Fabian, the DeMarco Sisters, Ethel Waters, the Clancy Brothers, Liberace, Woody Herman, Hank Williams Jr -- just a WILD array of performers. On a TV variety show.
Ed Sullivan was a real gem. His was one of the best on tv.
I still watch a smaller version every Sunday night. They had 'soul singers' last night. I was bit amused at their choices.
The Stones, but he made them change words
The network employed censors who had to approve every script and song. It wasn't Ed. Ed and his wife went out to many clubs across NYC to see acts live, often then having them on his show.
And don't forget the Doors with 'loose cannon' Jim Morrison 😅
And Elvis!
Winning over that audience took true musical magic !!
That dude with the white hair was def into it—I mean, how could you not be?!
This is the future I want.
Wow - I loved everyone's energy & taking the performance right into the audience was brilliant. 😍
Saw him at Summerfest, 1970. It was nuts. A riot almost broke out.
He was one of the best!
RIP and Godspeed Sly Stone - just glorious!
Sly=Joy
This clip right here shows you how magnificent Sly and the Family Stone were. Sly even got the squares in the audience grooving after just a few minutes. That's not as easy as Sly makes it look.
I really loved his music! So much fun. My deepest condolences to his friends and family. He brought joy to so many…
🤩🥰
Fuckin amazing
You might have been surprised to see how the audience wasn't as uptight as you think. Sullivan promoted a variety of musical and comedic acts that appealed to a wide range of tastes and his audience supported that (or he wouldn't have had an audience). Don't let the attire of the era fool you.
Wow, that one white-haired white guy clapping & smiling; does my heart good.
I always LOVED him! He always made making music look like so much fun. And he single- handedly made mutton chops cool.😢
If S&TFS doesn't get you going, you're dead inside.
Sunday nights...watching TV with my family....watching the Ed Sullivan show. RIP Sly.....Funk, Rock, and R&B mix
Without telling in myself I watched this. 😂😂🫢
They were talking about him on NPR today, they said he started singing in church when he was 7 years old.
Sly and the Family Stone was my first concert. At the Hollywood Palladium. I think I was 13. Went with my best friend.
This is fantastic! Rest in eternal power, Sly.
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🙏🏾
Nobody's music got you to your feet faster than Sly and the Family Stone. RIP Sly you will be missed.
Loved them when I was a teenager!
So so so good thank you for posting
I saw that one and it is totally my vibe, even in my 70's
Lol. The white people audience!! 😂😂
I love that one guy grinning and cheesing his head off, he doesn't care, he knows this shit rocks
The old white dude in the audience wanted to get up and dance so bad. He's clapping so hard
Oh, Danny. 1:it’s so nice to see you here. I’ve been weirdly blocked on @bsky by people who liked me; no idea why. 2:damn, Sly & the Family Stone was a big part of my adolescence & beyond. Semi-privileged white girl, but it’s true. I understand he struggled later in life. I hope he’s in peace 💙💔✌🏻🎶
And check out how diverse the band members are!
You're right :)) My humble suggestion is to also listen to these songs — I believe your day will be even better!💝🎵 open.spotify.com/intl-tr/albu...
Brilliance
I think we see Larry Graham on stage in that clip.
Thanks for posting.
I attended a concert with Sly and the Family Stone in the early 70s. He never showed up. Even back then he was totally wasted. It was a shame and the audience of several thousand was disappointed but worried. Last time I ever attended a venue to see Sly
A true legend
RIP Sky. Thank you for all of the great music. Take us higher!
He brought so much joy to his performances. Was so sorry to hear this news today. Great legacy of Music and Energy! RIP, Sly
Thought he died decades ago
Now is a time to rewatch “Summer of Soul”….
📌
Gotta give Sullivan credit for putting those bands on.
Great clip. Thanks for sharing.
Only thing missing from this clip is a reaction shot of Ed Sullivan. I loved seeing his very restrained movements to music.
Yeah man, this is awesome.
Loved him! My car radio sucked tho, and for the longest time, I thought the lyrics to Family Affair were " It's a family of bears..."
That works incredibly well this month
LOVED this and somehow had never seen it before. Thanks for sharing!!💙✌️
My fav.... youtu.be/x2tH2H6iLAo?...
No gimmicks, before great music.
NPR had a piece today about his life and music. Great music from great times. RIP Sly.
What a genius he was . RIP
💓
Truly one of the greats.
May Sly Stone soul rest in peace. I'm sure Ed Sullivan would never allowed Sly and The Family Stone to sing "I Wanna Take You Higher". The Doors was banned after singing "Light My Fire" because the lyric had the word "higher" in it.
The best 🎼🎵
There's some stiff body language, huh? The guy makes Ed Sullivan look like an autofellatio freak. - Dennis Miller/MNF
Amazing.
I adored them, such great music. They always looked like they were having so much fun every time.
Thanks for posting!
RIP
And that voice! Smooth.
The first concert I ever attended was Sly and the Family Stone. They were Amazing! Energy was Amazing!
So awesome. Funk, rock, horns, groove, hambone, proto-metal drumset and all!!!
Thanks for sharing!
So good
I didn’t see him in Louisville Kentucky when I was in high school because he canceled the show 🤨
God bless Sly. Who can't love and respect him and his music?
Still gives me chills!
That gives me chills. I know I saw that when it aired — I grew up with his music. 👏
Love this!
Absolute monster groove, always.
SLY WAS PURE GENIUS
that is fantastic, thank you, I've never seen
Fabulous Sly RIP 🥲🙏🌺🎶💙
Pop-pop on the aisle there is INTO IT, bless him!
He gets more and more into it. Adorable. 😄
Thanks for putting this up.
💔
That left me smiling! A much needed uplift! Thank you.
If they would only let us be ourselves, all of us, what a wonderful place it would be. RIP Sly.
💖💖💖
“Thank you for letting us be ourselves!” What a beautiful person. RIP.
Not enough was learned from those years
There is nothing like the funk of Sly and the Family Stone! RIP Sly and thank you.
Brilliant! Thanks for sharing. RIP Sly. Musical genius.
He looked like he was having a blast!

So good
I was in jr high dancing to his music and listening to his messages of social change💙
