The team is up 7-2 in the 9th inning of a game in August and I am currently as mad as I ever have been at a #Brewers manager. AMA

And now Uribe is warming?!?
What is the pecking order in your tree of trust?
I think Abner is the best guy. Asby is also very good, but needs to be used MUCH less because he is getting run into the ground. Mears is pretty good and I think Miller is reasonably good. Koenig is fine but you don't want him facing RH power hitters much. Myers is solid. Rob Z is OK. Why is Fedde?
You’re really committed to this bit, credit where it’s due.
Go back in the timeline. There is a very specific, very egregious complaint that set me off. I didn’t even realize how bad it actually was until I looked it up and then I actually couldn’t believe it.
Actually.
😂 your actually usage rivals Murph’s Ashby usage?
I'll save it for the @mketailgatenetwork.bsky.social , I wanna get my 5 bucks worth
Abner warming in a 7-2 game?
Have a cocktail
Have a mocktail? Maybe the rage will be sufficient for intoxication.
Tempting, but my stomach hasn't been happy with me the last couple days so best not.
Unfortunately, I find myself in the same boats. Misery loves company.
Sorry to hear that. I will have another then for you.
If this requires a lot of work feel free to save the answers for the next pod rather than answering tonight: Devils Advocate for Murph. Is there any analytical argument in favor of his admittedly frustrating bullpen strategy?
It doesn’t require any work. The argument in favor is one word, #winning
Ultimately, you can only push arms so hard before they become less effective (is that what we saw last night with Ashby?) or broken (Anderson?) and that hurts the ability to win, right?
I trust that Murphy has more information than you or I do, and he’s not going to do something that will hurt the team or a player. I choose to enjoy the stacking of wins and we will see where it goes. Go Brewers.
But you lose more when bad relievers pitch when better options are available, which by definition also hurts ability to win. This is a very smart organization and I’m certain Murphy doesn’t make these decisions in a vacuum, nor does he make them without input.
1) The main reason you lose more when bad RP pitch is because they're generally used when you're behind. You save your best RP for close games. 2) The Brewers mostly fill their pen with "good" RP and generally only have one "bad" RP at any given time, for inning eating purposes. 3) The problem....
3) ....is that Murphy doesn't trust perfectly adequate RP to take over with bigish leads often enough. He insists on pitching his best guys up big WAY too often when it really should only be done very sparingly DESPITE the fact that he generally has lots of competent guys avaiable.
Need proof? Murph has used... Megill up 4+ 7 times Abner up 4+ 7 times Mears up 4+ 11 times Ashby up 4+ 10 times He also did this to Koenig a ton (8 times) early when he trusted himl, has stopped doing it as much lately despite still being pefectly competent. It's flat out BAD management.
How many of those games did the Brewers lose? If you want to be mad, and for the life of me I can’t figure out why you’d want to be at this moment, you should be mad at the organization not just Murphy. I guarantee these decisions are not made in a vacuum. Go Brewers.
You don't generally lose games when you're up 4+ runs! That is quite literally the point. What I am mad at is that I think that the way Murphy is managing this bullpen is going to make it harder for them to win in October because he's running these pitchers ragged. THAT is why I am mad.
AND THEY BROUGHT IN MEARS WHEN DOWN 2 AND HAD ASHBY PITCH UP 7 AND URIBE WARMED UP BUT DIDNT PITCH 3 TIMES AND MEGILL MIGHT BE DEAD MY GOD THEY JUST GOT URIBE UP AGAIN AND FUCK ME DL HALL ONLY PITCHED 2/3RDs OF AN INNING AND URIBE IS UP AGA
It would just be me muttering "72 game, 120 inning pace" over and over and over until someone led me away.
It's not game 3 Kotsay in center bad. Or intentionally walking Ryan Howard to have Brian shouse face pat Burrell and shane victorino bad.
I never had any issue with Kotsay playing in that game. The Shouse thing was literally what got a manager fired in what was a move completely without precedent in modern baseball history.
My friends and I have an anagram for a situation that drives us nuts...cianss Closer in a non save situation. I'm not sure the stats, but it always see like they suck 🫏🥜
That Shouse/Burrell thing was so amazing. Still can't believe that actually happened.
Uribe in has raised my blood pressure too high.
Yeah. And in the moment, I was furious.
