not to be a helicopter guy but seen from a distance there's been one hovering more or less over the BU bridge for a while now could be something on the pike but i wonder if we have our first storrowing of the season? // @universalhub.com

i have learned a new bostonism today thanks to this post
Same. New noun for me!
Hoping for that over the similarly common alternative (a body floating in the Charles)
Helicopter been cruising around Roxbury too @stacos.bsky.social anything on the scanner?
Same helicopter - it's WCVB's helicopter, they did six or so loops around the Alston-ish then went down to Dot and then up toward Bedford. (That's the only one around there in a while today...)
Ah so joyriding
It fits the symptoms of "bored traffic reporter" yeah.
I'm always astonished at how much flight time local news here pays for.
i think that maps directly to how shit the traffic is
Other stuff too though; when the Blue Line had stuff happen at Aquarium a few weeks back all four of the local news helicopters circled the stop for hours... looking at the fire truck, I guess? It's like they didn't know it was underground. Same for the Karen Read verdict.
it did not occur to me to use flightradar! or flightaware? good call
I used Airnoise so I knew it wasn't the State Police and assumed this was media airnoise.io
Well, globe.adsb.fi in this case.
I guess this is what I saw over Watertown on my way to work then
Maybe, maybe not - flightaware says they took off at 2:22PM. But like... it's their third flight today, and all of the local news stations do pretty similar behavior to this every day.
There was a news copter hovering over the intersection of Bridge and California St at around 9:30-ish
counter: you should become a Helicopter Guy
i do have 'helicopter ride' on my bucket list, so to speak. always kinda wanted to learn how to fly one, etc. but the number of replies etc this "maybe a storrowing?" post continues to generate has committed me to avoiding future mention of helicopters or our annual civic folly
The two in that area (WBZ and WCVB) have been over Soldiers Field Road and the Arsenal area more (outside the typical Storrowing area).
well now i'm just hoping they're not getting live shots of troops moving on harvard
Thanks for sharing as I am in the Savin Hill Court end of Dorchester and I noticed it not just umpteen hours ago, but a few days ago as well and I was wondering WTF 🤬 My exboss the DonOLD is an idiotically insane tw@t🤷🏼♀️💦🙏🏻💙🇺🇸
I wouldn't be surprised
You know it is the beginning of September with this annual occurrence.
lol i love “storrowing”
We are certainly overdue for one.
