But it's also commonly identified with the Confederacy. Symbolism means more than actual historical accuracy. Hence why they use the Confederate flag as "heritage" despite written accounts by it's creator as a symbol for literal white supremacy (even though they're usually both)

You’re not wrong and they’re not wrong. It’s a dual symbol. They use that a lot. That way they have plausible deniability in their minds. So it’s both tough guy symbol and confederate symbol at the same time. Actually combining them makes it more evil.
