I think it's similar to people who buy Powerball tickets after the jackpot exceeds $600 million or whatever. At the end of the day it's fine, and I even think there's utility in spending a few bucks to get the feel of "maybe!" but no one should expect to win.

Unless you’re playing the lottery at least a few hundred million times, the expected value is not helpful

Utility value sucks though, since 99%+ of the winnings wouldn’t really change life much beyond the first 1%. But when buying the ticket, the whole amount spent would be useful
