China doesn't bet. It plans. US capitalism is piratically anarchic. It is planned only in the sense that its leading players collude, albeit often uneasily and invariably treacherously. It is short termist, opportunistic, parasitic. I'm not a fan of China but it is rational & focused.

The problem with USA and socialism, is that you have no idea about socialism. Trump maybe trend to a private but state guided economy, what is fascism. One tip: if the means of productio are not socialized, never can be socialism. Socialism is about property, not state.

State directed capitalism can work IFF the state chooses wisely. Xi bet on renewables. Trump bet on fossil fuels. Trump loses and so do we all in the US.
