This is why Morrison is a fucking genius. The cycle of Arcadia is one of the best criticisms of the Enlightenment I've ever encountered. From Hume's "reason is the slave of the passions" to the abominable search for pleasures of De Sade. Amazing stuff.
Disappeared the idea of heaven, the attempt to bring a utopia on Earth runs into the contradictions of an imperfect reality. Establishing perfection in an imperfect world can only be achieved through forceful imposition. Justice becomes its opposite, pure violence.
