Electoral districts are not there because of the electoral college, though. The electoral college is unique to the US but electoral districts aren’t.

I agree. Unfortunately, that doesn't address the issue of congressional apportionment.
Republicans will die on that hill before they allow the electoral college to be abolished.
The only reason to keep it is to manipulate the votes.
That should have always been my thought. Why should one state have priority over another? So many lose their vote because of this.
How about we eliminate gerrymandering and require districts to be drawn in grid.
