Europe is trying except for some ”paid of” wanna be dictators in Slovakia, Hungary and Turkey
The sky over India is dark with the wings of chickens coming home to roost :)
Perhaps Trump should attempt to stop the massive supply of Texas Instruments semiconductors that end up in Russian weapons.
They are right in one point... we in the EU still have too much trade with r*ssia. Ideally, it would be zero.
Sure, but fairly certain a lot EU money ending up in Russia goes trough countries like India. So putting a stop to that is definitely something that should happen as well.
I am for stopping all possible revenue streams for r*ssia. And it seems logical to start from the easiest items on the list. E.g. Austria rules over Austria, so they could enforce Raiffeisen Bank to leave r*ssia. It should be easier than enforcing their policy in India.
Eu trade with Russia is on a down trend while India's is rising every year
The US decreased trade with Russia by 85%. "U.S. bilateral trade with Russia in 2024 stood at $5.2 billion, compared with nearly $36 billion in 2021, government data showed." www.cnbc.com/2025/08/05/i...
EU has decreased trade with Russia. "EU’s goods trade with Russia dropped nearly 74% in 2024 from 257.5 billion euros in 2021." www.cnbc.com/2025/08/05/i...
Still too much. 🤬
"Russia became the leading oil supplier to India since the war in Ukraine began, increasing imports from just under 100,000 barrels per day before the invasion — 2.5% of total imports — to more than 1.8 million barrels per day in 2023 — 39% of overall imports..." www.cnbc.com/2025/08/05/i...
India is not providing context. "Bilateral trade between India and Russia reached a record high of USD 68.7 billion in FY 2024-25, nearly 5.8 times higher than the pre-pandemic trade of USD 10.1 billion." indianembassy-moscow.gov.in/overview.php....
India is right to call out the EU and the US, but that's still no excuse for India to buy Russian oil, gas or anything else. Just shows that they are just as morally bankrupt as everyone else.
Not really. Where the EU and US are significantly lower trade with Russia. India is reaching all times highs. Sure what the EU and US trade is still to much in my opinion, but India acting like this is some sort of hypocrisie is just anti-western propaganda.
Someone needs to tell them again S L O W L Y.
The EU doesn't buy and store oil/gas, it's the member states in it and I bet it's not all 27 but a handful like Hungary, Slovakia, Poland etc. Unlike India, EU countries have a framework in place to be completely free of Russian gas by the end of next year.
The biggest buyers of Russian LPG are France and Belgium, and they’re very resistant to any action to reduce their purchases.
They won't be able to do it forever, and on the last day they won't start the transition, but it's already slowly beginning now. Hungary purchases the most gas and oil, significantly ahead of France, a country with a population of 68 million compared to 9 million.
Not France of Belgium, but a French based oil company who is 30% owned by South Korea. This case is a long term contract on Sakhalin gas. In which other non EU counties have a stake. it is an international game. No ammo for Ukraine if you block it. And I hate multinationals BTW.
very good point Russia is also one of a handful of countries that the USA does not impose tariffs on its imports from.
A fair point raised by India. Hypocrisy and politics go hand in hand, so.....
Yeah, I wish the EU and US would stop shipping explosives to Ryssiä. www.reuters.com/business/aer...
In 2023, the trade balance between India and the European Union was in India's favor, with a surplus of €16.545 billion. Total bilateral trade reached €113.175 billion, with Indian exports to the EU at €64.860 billion and imports from the EU at €48.315 billion.
Well... they got a point. Still, sanction the fck out of india if they do it.
We in the EU should get our act together. Stop trading with Russia. Sanction the one continuing doingg so.
It is crazy that we still buy energy from Russia which destroys the goods we provide for Ukraine. We punch ourselves. We supply the aggressor against European values with money. Outrageous.
Them just saying "but you are trading with Russia too" is not very convincing. If it is wrong - and it is - then just don't do it.
trump and hegseth setting the example of feckless unprincipled cowardice & double-dealing in the face of actual threats unlike their usual bravado when preying on the weak and vulnerable
They've got a pretty good point there.
