The money they paid is paying off. Pilgrim's Pride chicken paid lots, in exchange safety requirements like reducing salmonella are gone. Auto manufacturers are grateful for looser safety requirements. Too bad US doesn't have laws against corruption and bribes. Used to, but our laws are dead.

People who are wealthy, for the most part, are wealthy because that is what they focus on. Not fulfillment, or happiness, or serving - just being wealthy. So this makes perfect sense.
