I canβt imagine how many of these the USA could have built rather then Alligator Alcatraz. We are currently the shithole country & I pray we can overcome these terrifying times.
If we could do this with services for non-drug users, maybe @cityofvancouver.bsky.social Mayor Ken Sim and Premier @davidebybc.bsky.social would do it. We need to get away from only services for drug users, and provide services for those who do not. Provide incentives to clean up. Zero tolerance.
Sanctuary when your world is falling apart
This is the way.
Love how they stuck with the "soulless cubicle" aesthetic.
I hope my brother gets in to this program
Wonderful! I applaud it. Also turn some of these buildings into affordable permanent housing
In 2020 when public service was told they would likely never return to office (some were hired that way), I emailed all officielas from PM down to city councilor to tell them to look to Calgary for this ex. Never even got a response from anyone. Then I started hearing...
the MPs to city council were going to Calgary as part of their downtown revitalisation. Then the mayor started complaining about downtown being empty and forced the most stupid return to work policy ever... I can't even detail the stupidity. P.S. I've been retired since 2018 so not affected, but...
tjey could revitalise in a 24-7 way instead of a 9-5, 5 days a week way π€¦ββοΈπ€¦ββοΈπ€¦ββοΈ
Fantastic. This is the way forward. Get a roof over heads and I hope there are supports in place to help them get back on their feet and independent in society.
I like the idea behind it, but why do they continue making places like this so obviously unsafe? No doors, walls that don't go to the ceiling? Access to be assaulted by anyone that feels like it, just as happens horrifically often in homeless shelters. π«€
that is an issue yes and I agree
Post pandemic empty office space is a growth industry. Every city could do this.
This should be done in Toronto and Hamilton
Everywhere.
Why not? Office buildings all over downtown are empty
π
What a great idea!
In the summer of 2020 and 2021, when it was clear office spaces would not return to 100% capacity, I hoped for mass renos like this. Thereβs just so much space not being used, not being profited off of, just sitting there. Glad it's finally coming together π«Ά
