Love how Thomas Lukaszuk beat out the separatists and Danielle Smith for the petition and wording ! When all is said and done Alberta will SEE the results unlike the CPP separation petition Danielle Smith put out last year .

except they are not the officials that determine if Alberta stays in Canada. 100% of Albertans could lose their minds and demand to leave Canada, and STILL they are not in charge one way or the other. First Nations owns the land, no one else. Their constant dismissiveness of FN's is astounding

Treaty 8 alone is utterly huge. It doesn't belong to the people of Alberta. Yes stupid people. It's stupid to believe, or to be lead to believe, that you control or own something that you do not. At all. Why no one can just look at a map makes me the bad guy. Alrightie then 🤷

Not arguing that point re: treaties. Arguing that an official petition is not useless nor stupid. In that it, with enough signatures, it gives a voice to those that support it.

Yes, fair point. But I'm not seeing how it can matter if the treaties were made before Alberta event existed. I know people mean well but I feel they are being lead to believe the situation is more dire than it is. FN treaties act as additional protection against any separation but isn't mentioned

I agree. In my mind separation would require FN agreement. Suspect that is the way the Supreme Court would also go.

Indeed it looks like an open/shut case. My gripe is really with Lukaszuk, who doesn't acknowledge that FN owns the land in anything I've read, or I've missed it? Doing so though would take all the hot air out of the situation when everybody realizes just how impossible it is.

All my friends from AB are horrified by Smith. I have no MAGA in my life but wonder how someone can see what is happening in the US and want that for Canada. It just can’t understand it.
