For all the economic suffering the US is doing its best to impose on the rest of the world, I am wishing for as much MAGA suffering as possible. I want to see huge numbers of red hat business bankruptcies, and Trump supporters losing their jobs, due to what their lord and saviour is doing.

We’re having to rethink our entire business model having already delayed our launch for months as it is. The exchange rate will help offset the cost of the tariffs, aid competitiveness, but does nothing to offset the additional paperwork and shipping complications. Such a mess.

This is global. Most countries are just shutting down their postal operations with the US entirely, but that is unlikely for Canada. IMO Carney needs to match this stupidity in order to then push for a bilateral removal/exemption for Canada & US.

The actual process to clear goods remains the same. Also remember Carney and Trump agreed to eliminate 201/232/301 tariffs and CA surtaxes on CUSMA eligible goods Sept 1 (which are duty free under US HTS anyway). Goods will need to have a CUSMA declaration if claiming. 2/

Irony is that it was Trump who pushed the increase of de minimis in Canada to match that of the US - $800 CAD. It was $20.00. CUSMA follows different rules than product labelling. Determining eligibility can be a PITA. 3/3

This is a huge concern for small online businesses. The new rules aren’t clear by any means. For now, it’s easiest to turn off shipping to the US altogether and wait. Some can afford to do this, others may lose their full revenue streams. That’s on top of the angst around Canada Post negotiations.
