Seriously, social media was just becoming a big thing when my kids were little, I did not allow my children on the internet unless I was with them, and they did not have cell phones, just be a parent, and remove the option, just say no. www.ctvnews.ca/sci-tech/art...

As a follow-up. I did a search for "Myers" (sic) on here, looking for the Trump post about Seth Meyers. Ummm, so straight up porn. Bluesky ain't for kids.

For sure. But, also don't be naive that they're not exposed anyway. I was looking at magazines I should not have had access to when I was 8. Older cousins are a menace.

Same. We had a shared computer in the kitchen and both kids were kept away from SM until they were 16. Games were played on play station, not online. Ditto for phones, even though most of their friends had them around 12. We were the strict parents, we took heat for it, but was a good thing ๐Ÿ‘

When i was a kid (way back in black & white) if I didnโ€™t find a great stick in the morning, I had nothing to play with the rest of the day lol!!! Was a time the human race had to survive adversity- now, we have to survive prosperity.

I was born in the 60's, we always found a way to have fun, with our friends, we were out until the street lights came on and had to come home, we were rarely monitored, we only had to check in with our parents every couple of hours, and we always told them where we would be

true and if my mum was not home, I could always go to a neighbour for help, it was a community that took care of each other

Absolutely - & sometimes youโ€™d get lunch - half the neighborhood eating cheeze whiz sandwiches or peanut butter- man, havenโ€™t thought about that in decades literally

Well said! Our son didnโ€™t get a phone until his teens. I would never give a child a cell phone, or if we did it wouldnโ€™t have access to the internet or social media. Phones are just computers and computers are addictive. More screen time means less physical activity and social interaction.

Same! We had an old Commodore computer, no internet and mom limit our use then, especially in summer. I always preferred being outside but my son is different. There are days I wish we never bought him an Xbox but itโ€™s ultimately his choice as an adult. Addictions come in my forms in todayโ€™s worldโ˜น๏ธ

This is a ploy for censorship. Take care of your damn kids parents. We take care of ours, why canโ€™t you?

We had our wifi on a timer and no data on the kids devices too. Itโ€™s been harder for parents since covid. I think devices were used so parents could focus on work. And of course, every kid was given a device so they could take part in remote learning. Thereโ€™s a lot of addiction to them now. ๐Ÿ™

My child does not have social media. And for good reason. Their little social developing brains are not equipped to filter out all the noise on social media. I also have concerns re: the noise and demonstrative narcissism and how that affects their identity development. Monkey see, monkey do.

/2 FYI, my adult children do not use social media, they appreciate how I limited them as children and teenagers on social media.
