We should be very proud of these planes that will fight wildfires. The pilots are next level skilled, as are the helicopter pilots.

They are very skilled, as I've seen the planes in use up close filling up with lake water and taking off again. It takes a lot of skill and guts to basically crash land in water and get airborne again! (with a lot more weight, too!)

Yes! We’ve watched too as they’ve bucketed from both Okanagan and Skaha lakes! And not just 1 plane- we counted 5 as they were fighting fires south of us a few years ago. Sooo grateful.

In my 20s, I got to work with the CFS for a year, saw those planes up close, working with spotter planes too. The spotter planes are much smaller, have flashing lights and sirens, and the 2 work hand in hand...but you don't hear about the spotters as much.

Canada β€œmust have robust climate disaster plans, creation or strengthening of Environmental Depts ” to combat such disasters. In return these plans, depts create more jobs & keeps people, our environment safe & healthy.

Add the Canadian Forces symbolism and count these as Defense expenditures. Then built double the amount. Crew them with Armed Forces personnel to serve the entire country as needed. Additionally, surplus capacity can be an extension of Canadian diplomacy in the global fight against climate change.

Pssssit...It's a bad headline. De Havilland stopped the production of the CL-415. The CL-515 is the new version, it's not getting back in the air. It's an improved version of an efficient tool to fight wildfires.πŸ˜‡

This should have been supported by provincial govts years ago. Despite the forest fire issues in BC, the BC Liberal govt refused to support the Coulson Company, with their massive water bombers & thus two have been sold to the U.S.. Sometimes politicians are so bloody stupid & lack vision! 😑

They live from election to election, which currently prevents long-term vision. It's not true for all of them, but it is for too many.

no, it's 100% Canadian, what happened was the company who owned them as a subsidiary, sold off the water bomber portion to another Canadian company

Actually, I was mixed up with the BC company who invented the whole water bombing idea in the first place. I believe they were bought out. I should investigate, but ... can't remember the name?
