I havenβt heard of it before! Looks like Iβll have to try it! π
Because it's blueberries, scientifically proven* to be the most perfect fruit for desserts.
I haven't had blueberry grunt but it looks yummy. I can recommend fresh blueberries added to Cheerios and milk for an incredible flavour combo.
Mmmmmmmβ¦I will gladly try thisβ¦all the way out West in Kelowna BC! We certainly have fruit GALORE this year and are gratefulβ¦(and a bit gluttonous!)
recipe in my thread there
Thank you π«
Like pouding chomeur (poor man's pudding) here in Quebec, Instead of blueberries, maple syrup (of course) πβοΈππ₯£
The first time I had a chomeur was at Pied du Cochon in Montreal. If opulence was a meal, it would have been that one.
Sounds amazing! Thanks @minibubbly.bsky.social π.
Love blueberry grunt, I have made it a few times here in Ontario but its just not the same as when you pick them fresh and make it.
And blueberries have many positive health benefits π. Also a very popular berry in the Nordic countries..
Our family cousin has acres of blueberry fields and he said heβs never seen such a crop as this year! He invited me to pick some and we βgruntedβ for a week!!
π€£ sounds awesome
YUM!!!!! π π«
My mom loved anything involving blueberries and blueberry grunt with vanilla ice cream was at the pinnacle. Brings back good memories.
Never had blueberry grunt, but I do eat an extraordinary amount of blueberries, the Oxford Wild Blueberries are by far the best tasting frozen blueberry brand, costs a bit more but worth it.
Two days ago I thought itβs been too long and I should look up a recipe for thisβ¦thank you.
I had blueberry grunt for the first time ever on Cape Breton earlier this year. Delicious!!
Good lord that looks delicious. But I think I'd have to have it with the ice cream to help cut through the richness of the dough. But I'd absolutely have it!
it is so good
Growing up in NS this was and still is my fav dessert! I make it every summer, along with hodge podge, and am currently making real mustard pickles (no cauli and peppers like the store bought crap), and green tomato relish! Yummmmm
May I ask your recipe for green tomato relish? I have at least 2 bushels of green tomatoes left and I already have more green tomato pickles than my extended family can eat in a year...
Awesome, thank you!
I waterbath can these for 20 minutes so that theyβll be good for closer to 18 months
I water bath mine too. My recipe is really old and doesn't say to but modern canning procedures would tell you to. I also used a dicer to chop the tomatoes into a small dice this time. It was easier but I do prefer it chunkier and will go back to hand chopping next year.
I modify sometimes depending on what I have on hand. Reg white vinegar is what we use and works fine, I like mine to be like a shredded texture like sauerkraut The old recipe book is my Grammyβs, papers falling out, margin notes, many jam recipes call for paraffin sealing
Same. If I use regular or apple cider vinegar, I just use a bit more than if I'm using pickling vinegar, and I tend to add a bit more salt than what recipes call for (I'm salt deficient).
I should probably note: I do have ph tests, and will tweak recipes with an 1/4 to 1 tsp of a liquid acid when putting them in jars, if needed. (Before anyone gets worried about substitutions and food safety, I have x3+? autoimmune disorders and do not want to die)
They are about half as sweet as bread and butter pickles sugar wise, if you are wondering what it tastes like
looks good. That would be the 89,764th reason we should move to Canada. Do you know any Canadians willing to adopt two obnoxious, 65 year old Americans, from NJ?
I don't sorry, but I hope you have a chance to come and visit.
We've been. Cousins in Toronto and Calgary, friend in Nova Scotia.
Iβd just tell any of your cousies to make up the couch βcause youβre cominβ! π β¦if your cousins live here they soon sort you out on our ways π
fun, thanks. My experiences with Canada have all been very positive. The place, the people...

I am an east coaster and I never heard of blueberry grunt
My ex was born in Parrsboro and some of the things she would come up with.... LOL.
usually these recipes are passed down from great grandparents and grandparents, my grams passed many down to me, much of which came from when they lived in Newfoundland
Sex in a pan was one my grandmother used to make, that and apple crisp was my kryptonite.
seriously wow, my grandparents always made it, they were from Newfoundland originally, then moved to Nova Scotia, the origins seem to be from early settlers from the British empire
Ontario sticking her nose in hereβ¦ Iβve been eating Blueberry Grunt since the 70s. My Mum made it often but not nearly often enough for us kids lol. Also, as kids, we just absolutely loved the name. I mean βgruntβ β¦itβs funny, what can I say?
yep
