Well, maybe they don’t like the way people in Mass pronounce Peabody (pee-BAH-dee) so DHS doesn’t believe it’s part of the US

I thought they said PEE- bitty.
pib-dee. no emphasis anywhere. must be eating crackers while saying.
Not to nitpick, but it’s PEE-bah-dee.
PEEB-dee.
Yes that’s after a drink or two.
Correct 😅
indeed - my old person brain fart - you are correct - got my accent misplaced👍🏻💯
I went to Mass for the first time a few weeks ago and was on the train omw to my friend and could not understand ANY of the town names, none were anything like they were spelled. The only reason I know Gloucester is from War of the Roses shows
And then there are Quin-zee, Hay-vruhl, Wistah, Meh-fid, and the favorite place for 12 year old boys everywhere, Athol.
PEE-b’dee is how I’d write it phonetically, capturing the cadence of native speakers. I’m not a native, but have lived 20 miles from Peabody for 38 years.
PEE - bud - ee
as I was corrected, I misplaced the accent mark- it is indeed correctly pronounced PEE-bah-dee - not the way I initially phonetically spelled it out. My bad🤗🤔🤪
Actually I think it’s PEE-bud-ee
Isn’t it PEW-buh-dee? I remember learning that you have to go through there to get to Beverly and thinking, “I already went through puberty.” But this is more bad news from the fascists and they have to be stopped.
As a Beverly resident during my formative years, I going "PEE-bud-ee."
We definitely called it PEE-buh-dee on our way to Beverly to see my Nana. When we saw the signs for Montserrat (we called it monster rat) we knew we were almost there. 🙂
I can accept “pee-buh-dee” because this morning my wife, who is from outside of Worcester, confirmed it for me. I’ve definitely been saying pew all these years, but I can accept that I was wrong. I need authoritative sources, not you randos.
No, it’s definitely PEE-bah-dee.
I think it's best written out as PEE-b'dy.
That’s close.
It's difficult to convey because no normal person would ever pronounce that combination of letters in that way.
I would ❤️ this a million times if I could. 😉
This conversation is why people from Massachusettes don't win the presidency anymore .
Mike - Life is hard enough these days … it’s even harder if you can’t share a laugh.
It. Was. A. Joke .
Ha!
You Bahstonians & we Noo Yawkers may use slightly different versions of sarcasm . And we might root for different baseball, football, basketball & hockey teams . But when it comes to opposing fascists trying to overturn everything our respective ancestors fought for - We're on the same page .
100%!!!
I’m just glad I set off fire storm about pronunciation of “Peabody,” where article is about an American born citizen receiving an idiotic deport notice from the fake Mar A Lago plastic faced fake boobed ICE Barbie bimbo Nazi bitch and Tom the fucking Nazi douchebag fuckwit (ran out of room) Homan
Point understood and taken, Lee. Since 1/20, every day seems to bring a nonstop fire hose of horror. It was nice to have a brief moment of levity at the expense of our geographical area. My God, this administration will be the death of us all.
More P-BDEE said really rapidly.
Correct
Unless you’re wicked MA, then it’s PEA-bid-ee.
Now do Worcester! 😂
You mean Worcestershire?
Nope
You are correct
That is where my BFF's mom is from, and the pronunciation has caused some hilarious fights and misunderstandings (BFF was raised in Berkeley, CA).
tsk tsk
Flashbacking hard to that time I got lost driving to Concord MA and the nice local dude didn't know what town I was asking about until he tweaked and said, "Oh, CANcerd!". Now I know. 🥳
