There *is* a difference in how USAian broadly tend to approach online discourse, and a word for that would be incredible “Hoining” has a kind of feel to it that fits. Onomatopoeia But it needs a dictionary-sized definition of the difference in approach, and my brain is currently pudding

Hoining : To heatedly enter into a discussion, usually online, with a predetermined position that misinterprets or misrepresents the lead participant's point for any number of reasons. Or something, it's a start.

It's not just a US thing, we do it all the time, and increasingly, in the UK too, it was just a noticeably pronounced shift. Not surprising with how heated political talk gets in the US context with the constant cycle.

The difference between mediated and unmediated interactions across cultures too. It's as fascinating as it's often infuriating. Just watching it happen makes me feel old and tired and I'm only 50. We'd all be better off breathing for a minute before we started typing (I should remember this too).
