She said outright that she wouldn't change anything that Biden was already doing regarding israel. She felt comfortable enough disregarding people with concerns regarding gaza during her campaign. She would do exactly what trump is regarding Gaza, but she would be "nicer" about it.

Europe's leaders have shifted their positions on Israel since the election. Why do you assume Harris would not also have shifted?

Because she still hasn't shifted her position. Also Europe's leaders haven't shifted their position, they are doing performative BS like airdrops and conditional state recognition while Israel carries out the final solution.

European leaders are actually doing exactly what Aly said Harris would do- frown and look sad while not lifting a finger, and you've just shown that you would have been fine with that

The problem is you're asking people to make assumptions in direct contradiction to how the candidate campaigned. Do you really not see how that's rather unreasonable ask?

Mark Hall @bobapril.bsky.social

No, not really. I think you are forgetting just how DEEPLY ignorant of world news even the Democratic base is. Go back and look at the polling from last October, it shows that people were only just BARELY starting to figure out that Israel was crossing lines.

And Biden, even that late, was way more popular than Harris, with many people thinking she had plotted a coup. If she had come out opposed to his Israel policies, AIPAC would have had more than enough ammo to tank her.

All AIPAC has is a campaign war chest and it's smaller than single pro-Israel boosters to Trump like Miriam Adelson

She would have lost EVEN MORE votes from the centrists than from the leftists who stayed home. Since then, there's lots more evidence from Gaza, lots more showing up in "regular people news." As OP shows, nat'l attitudes are changing. The party is grudgingly starting to change with it.

She said what she had to in order to get her best shot in a bad situation. And EVERYONE knows the value of a campaign promise - I don't think it's unreasonable to expect people to believe she would have reneged.

How was sending a sex pest to Michigan to tell us West Bank is actually Judea and Samaria saying what she had to? That's just about the most unnecessary provocation I've ever seen in politics.

But maybe I'm wrong. I still don't see how electing Trump helped ANYONE. Nor how electing him (or his replacement, if he dies or isn't quite brave enough to completely ignore the Constitution) again in '28 will help.

None of this contradicts the fact that she was campaigning on being a pro-Israel hardliner who absolutely would not budge on enabling Israel to "defend itself" (by murdering countless innocent civilians as they'd already done at that point)...

Tony Sladky @unitedshoes.bsky.social

...You can make all the excuses you want for why she "had" to say that or how much worse Trump was going to be, but your core thesis is still that voters should have been able to intuit that she would do the exact opposite of the things she campaigned on with regards to Israel, which is unhinged.

Well, we disagree on that. But (assuming Biden had quit when he promised to and we'd had proper primaries), I'd have liked a better choice myself. Who would that be? Who could run left of Harris on this or any other issue AND get elected?

Well, then, you're certainly free to assume that she would resolutely defend Israel regardless of facts or pressure from her base. But that seems less likely than her behaving like a normal person and shifting based on new data.

the democratic party will not even put a resolution condemning israel into their non-binding platform. this is after it already cost them an election. no one at the federal level of this useless fucking party gives a shit about palestinian people and neither do you you pathetic old fuck.

No one? Not even Ilhan Omar? Okay. Well, then, why are you wasting your time arguing about it? Go find another option. I don't think you have any short of armed rebellion, but maybe you can come up with something - if you weren't too busy sitting on the couch whining that no one is doing it for you.

No you’re the one making assumptions that is counter to her entire political career. She’s an AIPAC recipient who didn’t even meet with Palestinian activists. She lied about seeking a ceasefire. She has zero credibility. You obviously were not paying attention when Biden was in office.

A year ago, there would not have even been a discussion on this resolution. In fact, there wouldn't have been a resolution AT ALL. The attitude within the DNC itself is shifting. www.politico.com/news/2025/08...

Because I'm a member/officer of my local county party, I get to vote on representation to the DNC. You could, too. You could even run to attend the convention and vote directly on proposals like this. But that would take more work than complaining from the sidelines.

Change is hard, and takes time AND WORK. You weren't there to vote for the resolution for condemning Israel. Like I said, the very existence of even a FAILED resolution is a change, and in the right direction. It can happen.

Biden has supported Israel his entire career. The Democrats are fascists too and people like you who deny it are part of the problem.

I don't think trump thinks killing Palestinians will bring about the second coming. I think, like the rest of the people in government that are actually in control, he thinks that israel is in a strategically advantageous location for US interests.

I think you overestimate Trump - he just wants a coastline to put a new hotel on. But while I'm sure you're right about the strategic importance of Israel for some of his handlers, others really are eager for the Rapture. Look at Huckabee for the most obvious example.

She didn't the entire time she was vp during the genocide in Gaza. What, did she just need to see a few extra 100 dead children to really drive it home?

It's ramped up considerably since last year - way more than 100 dead children, there's probably 100 more dead journalists by now, and there's way fewer of those. But hey, like I said, believe what you want. She lost - so take your fucking "win" and move on to the next chance to make change.
