All I can tell you poor people is find a way to move out of Texas! I was lucky and moved when I was a child (parents moved around a lot). I always say I will never move back and I mean it. NEVER.
I know some don't even have this much so with awareness: my parent was able to move us out of our state with my kid sibling with $5k in her bank. We took a train and stayed at a hotel until she got a job, then got an apartment. By the end she had just barely enough for food, but we made it
